XP SP2 and my cd writer not working

i have installed SP2 onto my laptop. In My Computer it shows as a cd writer,
but when i try to write anything to it it just gives me an error saying

Drive D:\
is not accessible.

I have all the latest drivers for the device
Please could someone advise as i am desperate to get it working
 
your burning software may need an update.

check the vendors website.
