I understand that these 2 service packs are the same but with sp1a the java
was removed, can someone please tell me if installing the msjavwu.exe file
would return windows xp to sp1?

thanks

Return it to SP1? Strange way of putting it.

SP1/SP1a, it will read the same.. It's just if you install the MSJVM from
some third party download site (I don't believe you can get it from MS
anymore) - Technically you have added back the eliminated component in SP1a.

Such a third party site would be:

do you have a link to download this java file?

Hi

Take a look at this post by Jim Byrd to get some information on how to add
MS JVM to your OS installation::

If you are running Windows XP with no MS JVM installed, start with
installing v. 3805 (disregard that the post say Win2000 SP4, it will
install on WinXP as well).

Better yet, get an up to date JVM (Java Virtual Machine) from
http://java.sun.com/getjava

Better in whos eyes? I always get better results from the MS virtual java
machine, not sun's version. More websites are coded for the MS version. Also
the sun version installs other junk that isn't needed and I don't want.
Maybe the day will come when the ms one will be to old to use, but that's
not now.

msjavwu was the installer for one version of the MS virtual (Java)
machine. - IIRC version 3805. So run it; if it installs, then go to
Windows Update and you will be able to get the critical update to the
Virtual machine, described at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;816093
that takes it to build 3810.
