XP SP1 System Restore Fails with script error

I am unable to execute a Restore or create a new RP, yet the System Restore
is Monitoring and creating new RP folders daily.
I get a JavaScript error. Details from debugger show....
BREAK at ObjSystemRestore.EnableFIFO(); in srui-main.htm from rstui.exe

..I have tried the tricks in Kelly's Korner with no luck.
I ran srdiag.exe and the SR-RP.LOG says the RP folders are valid.

I tried Safe mode and selected Restore instead. but failed. I can see
calendar with bold dates but not Go back or create new.
I cannot disable Restore because that creates an error saying unable to
process and to reboot... which doesn't help.
I tried to disable System Restore service and enable.
Any ideas?
