XP SP1 problem

Just did a clean re-install of XP Home ed. on a Dell 4300 P4. reloaded
Internet software, Norton Internet security 2004, did Norton live Up.
everything worked great. Then next day i started downloading XP
critical patches. It downloaded SP1 then started installing it.
Somewhere in the install process it made the system freeze and i had to
cold boot it. Now system continuously reboots and can't get into
windows. How do i get back to normal? Should I stay away from critical
patches/updates for XP?

Did you have a firewall enabled before connecting to the internet? If not,
it may be something you "Caught". It only takes a second.
