XP SP 2

We currently have Main PC connected to Broadband &
ethernet link to secondary.
Will installing SP2 over SP1 affect this?
(when tried one bit of anti virus SPAm software it caused
secondary to stop getting access to the web... so removed
it!)

Not if properly set up. Please read
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm for potential problems and
particularly for information on how to set up the new firewall.

You could simply try it. If it doesn't work well, you can still
uninstall SP2 again or roll the system back using System
Restore.
