XP Sluggish when storing large files.

I have an application that continuously writes file records to an NTFS
partition. The files can become very large (>12 GB) sometimes. I have
noticed that XP seems to get very sluggish as the files get bigger. The CPU
utilization is only around 10-30%.

Could this sluggishness be occurring because of the System Cache usage? It
is around 300MB on a system with 500MB of memory. There is roughly 25MB
available of Phys. RAM when the system is running. If this is the cause, is
there anyway to minimize this sluggish behavior through OS tweaks?

Have a look at the item "Music stutters when opening applications",

I checked the item that you suggested and I don't think it applies. My
system is using SATA in RAID1 mode. It is a 3.0 GHZ P4 system with 512 MB
of RAM and 800MHZ FSB.

Do you have any other suggestions?
