XP Slows to a Crawl

I'm running XP Home and it recently starting taking as
long as 10 mnutes to bring up my user account screen.
Once it's up, my applications seem to run fine, but XP
may still be impaired; for example it took foever for me
to call up the Help and Support Center. I've tried
system restore to no avail. Any suggestions?

What does a scan with your current antivirus (using updated definitions)
show? Remove spyware with tools such as Spybot S&D and/or Ad-aware.
Delete temporary and Temporary Internet Files. Stop unnecessary
programs and services from starting with msconfig. Etc. Post back if
you need more help.
