I work at a site with approx 600 desktop PCs. The OS on
these desktops is 500-Win98, 60-W2K Pro, and 40-XP Pro.
All desktops access the same NetWare6 servers at this
site. All of the XP desktops are a great deal slower when
accessing these servers. The Win98 and W2K desktops do not
experience this at all. An example is when doing a file
search on the NW volume from a Win98 PC, it finds the file
within 5-8 seconds. When doing the same search from an XP
desktop, it takes 7-8 minutes. This is consistant across
all PCs. I have tried different NICs in the desktops and
different versions of the NW client, but nothing makes a
difference. We will be upgrading the rest of the PCs to XP
soon and I need to find out why XP is so much slower than
Win98.
