I have been struggling with this for a few months now. It takes about 4 - 5
minutes to reboot. I think it started with SP2 but not 100%. I am assuming
I have a hardware / device driver issue someplace but I updated everything
and my bios. Soon I am going to format C:\ and start over I really dont want
to.

XP Pro SP2 fully updated
DEll Dimension 8400
1 gig ddr2
320 gig raid 0 sata drives
blah blah

Run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to save all the files and
settings you want to keep to CD/DVDs and then reinstall XP or run the
Dell recovery CD.

Then you can restore your files and settings.

Read this page on how to use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard:

Eric,
PC Buyer Beware!

Unless there are other issues that we don't know about, formatting and
clean-installing Windows is a last resort. It is always your choice of
course, but I would at least do some shutdown troubleshooting. Here is
a link to an excellent shutdown troubleshooter:

Slow shutdowns are often caused by malware since those programs do not
want to gracefully exit. Are you sure the computer is clean?
