XP Shutdown

Everytime I click on Shut down in XP, the screen gray's
out. Is there a way to keep the screen from graying out.
It is so disturbing. Lewis
 
The machine is shutting down. Why do you even care at this point? Most
people click "shutdown" and walk away.
