Downloaded sp2, locked up my peer-to-peer 2 computer
network. I disabled the windows firewall, still cannot
communicate. I tried system restore, got "failure"
message. Tried safe mode, computer locked up. Rebooted,
tried to uninstall sp2, computer froze again. My tech
consultants tell me sp2 problems are widespread and that
I may have to completely wipe the hard drive and
reinstall everything. Any ideas?

You discovered what i have only now discovered.

SP2 is a piece of crap.

My computer is configured to automicatically download windows updates.being
trusting, I installed it on my computer.

The security features promptly prevented me from listening to audio on
Windows Media Player of all things..on news and political web sites that i
like to visit..specifially RushLimbaugh.com. That site has NEVER caused me
any computer virus problems.. but the security center acted like i wanted to
DOWNLOAD the audio rather than just listen to it as streaming audio! I DIDN'T
want to DOWNLOAD anything! i just wanted to listen!.. Even when i hit the
DOWNLOAD button.. nothing happened.Fortunately..unlike you.. i was able to
remove SP2 from my computer.. and the problem promptly went away. I thought
Windows Updates were supposed to PREVENT problems on my computer.. not cause
them!

This almost makes me want to switch to a LINUX based system..and I'm a
Microsoft stockholder!

system and to learn about the new features.

I personally have installed SP2 on dozens of computers that I am responsible
for maintaining. I only experienced a single minor problem on a single
machine, and that was caused by a NIC card driver and not SP2.

Current estimates are that 70% of computers experience no problems. Those
that do are most often due to improperly maintained computers.
