Okay, I've tried to install the XP Service pack (I'm
running Professional, btw) several times and it will
never finish the intall. It downloads, starts to
install, the wizard pops up and pretty soon after
the "archive" window opens, the install shuts down.
There is no error msg number to refer to, it just
says "Service Pack Install Stopped" in a little gray box
with a red circle w/an X. Please tell me, do I need the
SP? And if so, can I accomplish this some other way?

Thanks!

Ok , first off, is your XP serial legit ? If it is
questionable it will stop the install.

There are several serials that are blocked from having
the sp. You can change the serial to a legit one and
reinstall if that is your case.

Step 2
Look at the install log for the service pack, it will
tell you exactly what is failed on, then you can correct
that problem.

But the service pack ( in my opinion ) isn't all that
important, the number one thing it adds is USB2 support.
It will help you with some security issues but you can
download most of the hot fixes to clear up most of that.
