XP secured folders

P

'perch

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP, but now do not have access to
the old "My Documents" folder on another partition.

It was encrypted and 'made private', and the problem I now have is that
I cannot access the files therein. Some of it it quite important
(accounts and so on). I know I was an idiot not to have it backed up,
but we've all done that, haven't we?

Tell me, is there any way of recovering this information?

If I remember rightly, when you first encrypt a folder a key is created
which you are advised to save to removable media in case of just this type
of eventuality. If you didn't do that, then I think you may be out of luck.

However, this newsgroup is about Microsoft *Access* security. You may get a
more definitive answer if you ask the question in a newsgroup about
Microsoft *Windows* security.
