I'm running XP on my laptop, connecting to the internet
with an analogue modem. Whenever I connect to the
internet and open IE, it's ok for a few minutes but then
I get the following message:

"Windows must now restart because the remote procedure
call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly"

It gives a minute for you to shut down.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Step #1:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Networking and Internet
Connections, and
then click Network Connections.
2. Right-click the connection on which you would like to
enable ICF, and
then click Properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, click the box to select the
option to Protect my
computer or network.

Step #2:

Visit
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_msblast.htm
and follow
the instructions.

Step #3:

Download and install the following:

Blaster Worm: Critical Security Patch for Windows XP (32-
bit version)

Since you made it this far and had to read that:

Ding, ding, ding, ding. You have won the grand prize.
You have probably been the hundredth person to ask that
this week.

Your prize consists of you being stupid and lazy because
you
will not scrolldown to see that this question has already
been
answered in short. Also you are going to be crowned mr.
or
mrs. lazy of the week.

----
on a lighter note I know that i am not paid for this but
c'mon
All it takes is a little common sense to see if your
question has
been asked before. Now really, how hard is it to scroll
down the
page, its not that hard.

--But heck what do I know I'm just 15--

You have the Blaster worm!!

First, stop the bug from running by hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE and
bringing up the task manager. Look for msblast.exe in the list, and
kill it. Now your computer won't shut down, but the bug is still there
and will run the next time you start your machine. Go to this URL to
find out how to get rid of it:
