XP Rotating Games to different Cores?

I have XP Pro x64 on a quad core proc. When I am playing everquest, I notice
on the Task Manager that the different everquest sessions are being rotated
to different cores, and occasionally, they ALL end up on the SAME core,
resulting in everything freezing.

Ive tried to manually set affinity but its not allowed. Im using wineq2 and
have the innate eq affinity setting to off.

Im told by tech support its an XP issue not Everquest or WinEQ2. So my
question is, how do I STOP the OS from rotating my multiple instances of the
same game around and force them onto discrete cores?

Actually, it is an Everquest issue. They would need to release a patch for
64bit multi-core systems so that their software doesn't end up on one core.
The game software was not designed for your system. Their tech support
couldn't help you because it's a game software programming issue.

Geoffrey,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I hope this is not the case, though I
can see how its possible. Before I ordered the system I sent the specs and
64bit OS to Everquest Tech support and they explained that there would be no
problems. I only upgraded the computer to get 8 GB of RAM and therefore the
64bit OS specifically for Everquest. Its a shame that its not working as
intended.

Lots of games don't like multi-core processors, that’s because they were
never designed for anything like that. SMP development is tricky, so I wrote
a class library to make development of games SMP friendly.
