XP Restore Error

H

Harry Davis

I got the following error in the event viewer. The System
Restore filter encountered the unexpected
error '0xC000007F' while processing the
file 'desktop.ini' on the volume 'DP(1)0x7e00-
0x1f58a00+1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This caused the System restore to delete all of my restoe
points and shutdown. Dell says that this is a microsoft
issue. The KB doesn't have anything on this that I can
find.
OS: XP Pro IE 6

Has anyone seen this error and the fix?

It's possible there is actually a problem with one of the
desktop.ini's but which one. There is over a hundred of them.

Try running chkdsk c: /r to check the volume,
and then re-enable system restore to see what happens.
