How do I do an XP repair if SP 2 has been DOWNLOADED and installed and is
not on the original Windows XP disk?

Specifically, what are the steps including use of the XP disk?

Am I at risk of losing any data?

Thank you.

When using a PC there is always the risk of data loss. Having a regular
backup schedule is one of the most important things a computer user can do.

There are programs that will slipstream SP2 with your XP disk to make one
that you will be able to use to do a repair. Autostreamer is one and another
is nlite another. Googol for them. Autostreamer is very easy to use.
Basically you download the slipstreaming program, and windows sp2 update
files for IT persons

Read the program manual. Install the program. Put the original CD in your CD
ROM drive. Start the program. Navigate to the source disk in your CD ROM
drive. Navigate to where you have the sp2 download and the program will
merge them (slipstream). Finally you will burn the created file to CD.

I think we are a little above my pay grade here. Microsoft says that I may
need to do a repair on XP. Exactly how do I do it. What do I do about
reinstalling SP 2 (I gather I don't need to do SP 1).

Thank you.
