xp repair problem

My buddy recectly came to me with his compaq laptop. It was having some major
issues, so we decided to do an XP repair. He started the repair but half way
through the battery went dead and we had to start over. Now every time it
gets to one minute before it's done it restarts the repair. We can't get past
that point. I decided to go into the recovery console and do a CHKDSK /R
until there were no errors and then try the repair but unfortunetly that
didn't work. If anyone has any ideas it would help alot. Plus if I don't
figure this out my friend is going to kill me because I told him to do the
repair.

In recovery typeiskPart In DiskPart delete the partition(s),create one,then
press Esc key,then type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs When its thru,type:EXIT Let
xp restart,reboot to xp cd,then select install xp.If xp is corrupt from a un-
successful repairs,then install a new copy.
