xp reinstall no ip address

i reinstalled xp pro and now when i go into my network
connections i can not make a connection to my dsl modem.
i think it is because the reinstal rewrote some files and
there is a "shadow" of my old connection that is using
something i need.

please help

Did you reinstall the network interface?
Did you then re-setup all the networking settings?
You would probably need to do those things.

Of course the reinstall rewrote some files.
Now you have to reinstall drivers and settings.
