XP Reinstall/ASR Backup

I have a Sony laptop that came with XP Pro installed
(OEM) rather than an external disk. My hard drive died so
I purchased a new HD and need to rebuild the computer. I
have the Sony recovery disks to build the new HD from
scrach, however, I also have a very recent ASR Backup of
the old hard drive. Is it possible to rebuild the machine
on the new HD from the Snoy recovery disks and then do an
ASR recovery after the machine is rebuilt to reinstall my
preferences and other data? In addition, the new HD is
60gb and the old dead one is 20gb, will this affect the
HD partitions? Any help would be much appreciated.

This won't work unless your restore CDs has a valid i386 directory. ASR
does a new install then pulls in your data and settings from the ASR backup.
