Win XP Pro ASR

My hard drive crashed so I am trying to restore the
settings with ASR. The recovery screen reports that
either the Floppy or CD is damaged and will not run. I
have tried 2 CDs and 2 CD-ROMs without success. Must be
the Floppy. I have several months of ASR backed up on the
LAN file server. Is it possible to restore without the
floppy that directs the setup to the backup file on the
file server? How do I do it?

No, you need the ASR.SIF that is located on the floppy drive in order for
ASR to tell the system where everythings goes. HOWEVER, when you backed up
your data to the server, it is just a normal .BKF file.

Now you have 2 options:

First Option:

Using NTBACKUP open up the BKF file on your file server. Browse to
C:\Windows\Repair (in the backup) and restore ASR.SIF to a floppy disk. Try
restoring again.

Second Option (Probably the easiest)

1. Reinstall Windows XP clean
2. Using NTBACKUP, browse to your file server and then restore all of your
data to your drives.
