I recently had a virus,, ended up having to re-instal XP
from the CD. But, what I didnt know that the setup cd was
corrupt. Now when I try and load windows, it will start
with scandisk, then go to a memory dumb. the message at
the top says, failure to load a regestry hive, and gives
the following commamd line \System\System32
\Microsoft\Config\Software. After thedomn it just
continues to repeat itself. My question is Since I have to
purchase a new XP CD will reinstaling it fix this problem?
Does anyone have any suggestions. I have tried instaling
XP on my other computers and It will tell me that it can't
continue setup because the disk has unrecoverable errors.
I know that this nottrue becuase, I'm using my harddrive
now but with Windows Me. Any suggestion?

Try copying the WinXP CD's I386 folder to your hard drive
and starting Setup with WinNT.exe located in the I386
folder.

If you can copy all the files onto the hard drive then the
CD isn't bad.

Another option would be to borrow a friends WinXP cd and
use your CD key when you install it. Make sure the same
version of WinXP is used or your CD key will not work with
it (Upgrade, OEM or Retail version). The CD's for each
version are the same, all you need to do is use your CD
key and not your friends.

Hope this helps!
