XP reboots after SP1 install

Help:
I recently installed SP1 to my HP 6000 following the recommendation of the
windows update. Now the PC continually reboots. The COMPAQ banner comes
up, but then about 15 seconds later, the fan slows, then it cycles again.

What can I do to isolate, recover the PC? Any help would be appreciated.

First off, SP1?! Just now - you are installing SP1?

Secondly, sounds like an incompatibility with Compaq - have you searched
their website/called them for support? Do you get ANY windows screen
what-so-ever? If not - then it might not even be an SP1 problem, but one it
uncovered with bad sectors on your hard drive.
