XP Reboot & Shutdown Problem

I have a problem that started recently: When I try to reboot my laptop it
starts to shutdown, then it gets to the screen that says: windows is shutting
down, but it freezes on that screen and it does not reboot! I have to shut it
down using the shutdoff button. The same thing happens when I try to turn off
the pc using the start and then shutoff computer, all I get is the windows is
shutting down and again it freezes there. Please, can someone help me fix
this??

Thank you so much!
