XP Re-installation

I am having problems with XP Home Edition becoming very
slow and certain accessories like my screen saver no
longer work. Can I re-install XP without compromising any
of my installed programs?

Best way would be a system repair vice complete
reinstall. I'd still back up important data first before
trying either one.
