I am getting ready to replace my ailing hard drive, I was
wondering will my computer boot up XP from the CD Rom or
will I need to download set up disks and run it from the
floppy ? ( my computer is about 1 year old )

I would boot with a floppy first and boot woith cdrom
support. Then access your cd and install.

Check your bios settings for boot sequence. If your computer is only one
year old, I cannot think of a reason as to why your computer will not boot
from CD. Just make sure the boot order allows you to boot from CD, then put
the disk in and boot from it!

I checked my bios..

first boot device floppy
second boot device hdd
third boot device cdrom
boot up floppy seek disabled
init display first agp

cdrom boots third,, so will it see it after checking the
others first and second or will i need to switch the
order ?

A one year old machine should certainly be able to boot the CD - on
power up, hit the appropriate hot key to enter BIOS setup, in that there
will be a setting either in BIOS settings or a specific boot page, to
boot the CD before HD. Booting the XP CD will lead you to Setup

Or you could clone the existing HD to the new one, provided the contents
of the old have not been corrupted. Several programs are available - I
use BootIT NG, from http://www.BootitNG.com ($35 shareware - 30 day full
functional trial)
