i'm sure this question has appeared in one form or another many times but
still hope i will get some good answers.

my windows xp is riddled with viruses (30+ according to my avg virus
protection program). i want to wipe it clean and re-install everything.
i know ms will allow this (original program on the same computer) but i have
a few questions.

1. how does ms know, after i reformat, that this is going to the same
harddrive?
2. would this be as simple as it was the first time i loaded it in?
including activation and all?
3. do i need to notify ms before i attempt this move?
4. is there anything i am overlooking?

thanks for any help.

If you haven't done any major hardware changes, it should do just fine.
If it's been 120 days or more since the last activation, even hardware
changes won't matter.
