XP professional restarts when I select shut down

Hello,

I recently connected my pc to a home network, and now it won't shut down
anymore. In stead it restarts, unless I quickly press the power button when
the screen is black. How has this happened and how can I fix it? I did
download and install Intel PRO Network Connection Drivers to run the LAN
network card.
