XP Product Activation Phone Numbers

Hello:-

I need the XP activation phone number for CA, USA.

My son ininstalled Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum
Edition, and was a victim of the problem described in KB
811408, where the boot drive was inacessible due to a STOP
0x0000007B error.

After following the registry fix described in the KB
article, the system can now be booted from the C: drive,
but Windows thinks it is no longer activated. I receive
the following msg when attempting to log in:

'A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking
the license for this computer. Error code: 0x80090006'

All the articles on the MSFT KB assume that you will get
the phone # from the product activation wizard, but that
does not appear in this case.

Machine: Compaq Presario 6027US P4-2GHz
OS: Windows XP Home Edition

Any help most appreciated.

You do get the activation number from the Activation Wizard.
What are you seeing when you try and activate ?

If you cannot logon then the number for the activation center will be of no
use to you since you need to be logged in and running the wizard to enter
the activation code they will provide to you.

Can you boot the PC into safe mode (and login with the local administrator
account)

Alternatively you could try and boot from the Windows XP CD and do a repair
install.

After contacting Microsoft Customer Support by phone,
I ended up doing a repair install, and when I finally
got to the activation wizard, behold - the activation
phone number field was blank, and the toll number
field also!

I was unable to connect via either internet or modem
to activate electronically, and finally was able to
persuade a person at the customer support desk to
give me the number, which, for reference is:
888-571-2048

This worked from CA, USA, and was handled by a voice-
response system without any human intervention.

Many of the computer settings were lost due to the
repair install, but oh well, at least that's better
than losing all the data and having to completely
reinstall.

Unfortunately the numbers are regional and subject to change although
I am not aware if they have ever been changed.
