About 5 or 6 times a day, my pc just stops running
whatever program I'm using with no warning, it just
disapears like I clicked the red X @ tha top. It mostly
does it on hotmail.com but it also does it on other
programs such as word, games, front page, and many
others. I see no relation with these programs as far as
software simularities or design flaws. I've done the best
I can looking for viruses, going as far as Norton
Professional 2003, also housecall.com and running their
online scan. I constantly run win doctor and there's no
problems. Now, I'm a pc tech and I can't figure this one
out by my syself. I also use window washer, and system
mechanic as utilities. Please Help!

What about drivers? Have you checked them? If they seem ok, what if, you
uninstalled them one by one and re-installed them one by one.

Just a guess.

This has happened to me also. A progamming is running one
second and then it's completely gone, just as if the red X
had been pressed.

This has happened to me with the mpeg encoder tmpgenc and
also with the usenet newreader BNR2.

There is no error message, nothing in the event log.
I would have expected some indication of an error *somwehere*,
but was not able to find anything.

I'm running xp on a Fat32 partition - seems to be an XP issue,
since it affects a variety of apps. I thought perhaps it was
hardware related, but even if it was, wouldn't the program
crash, rather than just disappear?

Nothing to do with hardware. If you're using TMPGenc and it does it, then
that points to the video driver. MSs Movie Maker 2 does that on my machine.
Try a different driver.
