XP Pro Workstation Keeps broadcasting

B

Brian Z

Windows XP Pro, SP2 with all the updates.

The problem it broadcast non-stop on the network. Here is the output of the sniffer...

source 192.168.100.125
Dest 192.168.100.255
Protocol NBNS
Registration NB Computername<1f>

I have hundreds of these in the logs. Why can't this computer register? Other computers are working fine. I am concerned this broadcast will slow down the network.

Hello Brian and All:

We also have this issue. There are about 60 devices on the network and two
broadcast large numbers of Registration NB Computername<1f>

All systems use DHCP for configuration and DNS is used for name resolution.
There is no WINS server on the network.

Both systems have been scanned with the latest Symantec AV 10 and have been
checked for spyware. We can find no unusual applications installed.

Both have a wired and wireless NIC but the wireless is not used and is
disabled.

This has been open for some time. Does anyone have a suggestion?
