XP Pro Workgroup Share access trouble

I cannot access a shared folder on a Win XP Pro machine from Win XP Home
machines. All on the same workgroup.
You can see the computer, but get an error message whenever you try to
access the computer/share: Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the
requested logon type at this computer
Net View shows the computers in the workgroup accurately, as well as the
shared resources on each. When you use net view \\computername to view the XP
pro computer you get System error 5 Access is denied.
Simple file sharing is enabled on the XP pro machine.
Other than the latest Windows update – nothing was changed on the computer.
I cannot use system restore to go back, doesn’t want to work no matter how
far back I go.
Additionaly any changes I make to the local security policy in the managment
console on the XP pro machine don't stay.
Anybody have any idea what is up? And how to fix it?

Rick,

1. Click Start - Run, type "secpol.msc" in the box, and click OK.
2. Click Local Policies.
3. Click User Rights Assignment.
4. Check "Access this computer from the network", and make sure that the
Everyone group is included.
5. Check "Deny access to this computer from the network", and make sure that the
Everyone group is NOT included.
