Help! I have a PC with Windows98 SE with two hard drives in FAT32. Thje C drive is about 16 gig and the D drive about 60. I ran XP Pro
Upgrade to convert the existing system to XP Pro and it now only recognizes my C drive! How can I get it to recognize both drives?

Thanks!

If you formerly had Roxio's GOBACK installed, you should re-install it under
XP. It does something to the Master Boot Record (MBR).

I inherited this machnine and reformatted both drives before
installing Windows98. I didn't install any other programs so the
machine only had the 98 operating system on it. Both drives were
recognized by 98 but XP Pro only recognizes the C drive. What do I
need to do to get both drives recognized? I tried doing a non-Upgrade
install wiping out 98 completely, but neither approach lets XP
recognize this second drive.

I tried that but it still only sees the C drive with 15 GB and has
assigned D to the CD-ROM. There's no other display for another hard
drive.

I uninstalled XP to go back to the Windows98 installation and sure
enough, both drives are still there and formatted for FAT32.

It's an older PC, a 400MHZ PII with only 128MB RAM in it, can that be
part of the problem?

XP will not create or format a FAT 32 partition bigger than 32GB. It
ought to be able to work with one that has been made by another system
though. It is *possible* though that the upgrade install on the other
drive may have marked this one as being hidden. Go to Control Panel -
Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk Management and look lower
right for the graphic of the drive. Look for the second drive and the
big partition. If it says 'Healthy - Unknown' then that is most likely
what happened.

To 'unhide' I suggest BootIT NG, from http://www.BootitNG.com ($35
shareware - 30 day full functional trial)

Download, to its own folder, extract from the zip, run the bootitng to
make a boot floppy.

Boot the floppy, Cancel Install, entering maintenance, then click on
Partition work. Select the second HD on the left, then Highlight the
partition and click Properties - if this is hidden, there will be an
Unhide button
