XP PRO SR2++ changes in my system??

Lately, I'm noticing strange changes in my programs, and at time my cursor "tremble" or "shivers." Today, I scanned a colored document and when I went to open it for editing (color, lightness, crop, et al), and tried to Save As, My Pictures open up in file name format, not Icons as its done for years prior (all MS systems I've had). It was irritating b/c I couldn't save what I'd edited. Also, my scanner tried to scan it as a .bitmap not .jpg... My MS Word (Office 2003, w all updates also) now asks me to sign in to My Computer, and my ID is already in there, so I merely X out...but what's going on? Nothing seems amiss.

Use AVG, AdAware, have WFW on, and did a clean install of XP Pro 2 months ago. Plenty of HD space, and nothing appears amiss in anything...but I refuse to check my registry w/o an expert b/c I don't know anything at that depth, am a blind user, but have never had a virus or Trojan, only once thought I did b/c of NSW (which I am finally rid of).

Now MY PICTURES are in reverse order...I'm a blind user and this is getting incredulous. WMP v. 9 keeps "landing" on my computer, too, and I don't want it. Its too large for my use.
