XP Pro Slow Domain Logon

Guest

I have a xp pro SP 2 notebook that is joined to a nt 4.0 domain. After the
most recent security updates applied in January any domain account takes 2+
minutes before the desktop is displayed. I used MSCONFIG to isolate the net
logon service as being the source of the issue. The logon is normal when I
use the local administrator account.

I've checked device manager, disabled service "web client", checked IP
configuration, disabled unnecessary protocols and EAP security, changed the
order of network providers, ran System File Checker. I have ran spyware and
antivirus scanners, and the system reports it's clean. Other notebooks with
the same configuration logon normally.

The microsoft security updates were applied Jan. 19, and I do not have a
system restore point before that. I've searched the message board and have
tried posted suggestions.

How do I fix this sloooow logon?

TIA

are you using WINS? it could be name resolution issue.

Thank you for your response. Yes, we use WINS (NT 4.0 domain). WINS database
shows normal entries for this PC. There are no WINS errors in event log.
IPCONFIG shows proper registration for WINS, DNS, and DHCP.

The situation with this PC is unique when compared to others of the same
type and configuration.

TIA for your response
