XP Pro Sharing HELP!

Mikey

Hey All,
Wonder if you can help me with a problem.

I have this error message coming up:

"Folder is not accessible, you might not have permission
to access this network resource, contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.

Bad login, unknown username and or password."

Okay the scenario for your thoughts.

I am running a network with a XP Pro File Server that I
can ping by both IP and Name. This server is running a
domain, with an IP address, Primary and Secondary DNS and
a Gateway. I am trying to file share folders for
individual users. I have disabled SFS, enabled TCP/IP
over netbios, I have checked computer browser service
is "Started" and running. I have added users and give
them full permissions to the folder, including computer
management on "shares" folders and removing "$"
applicable to this folder. If I reverse all the above
and browse the folder, access is instantly granted. As
soon as I try to manually configure and allocate users to
specific folders that are shared I get the error message
above. All machines both client and host are Win XP SP2
machines, running through a switch.

Help please.

Mikey,

The terms "reverse all of the above and browse the folder" and "manually
configure and allocate users to specific folders" are not terribly clear. Can
you please explain in more detail what you're doing in each case?

And are the client computers joined to the domain that the host computer / file
server controls?

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

An XP Pro computer can't run a domain. That requires a computer
running a server operating system (Windows NT Server, Windows 2000
Server, or Windows Server 2003). Your network is configured as a
workgroup.

In a workgroup, using XP Pro with SFS disabled requires matching user
accounts -- same user name and password -- on both computers. You
define access permission on the server computer for a local account,
then you log onto the client using an account that matches the
server's local account. To allow access by all users, include the
Everyone group in the access permissions.

This web site should help you get everything working:
