A few days ago I purchased at Office Depot a retail OS-XP PRO Upgrade with
rebate of 100.00 USD. Usually you are prompted to supply a copy of the UPC
Barcode. Office Depot is requesting a copy of the "Serial Number" though. Am
I correct in assuming the serial number is the Microsoft sticker w/ 3 sets of
barcodes and hologram strip on right side of the retail package?

I wouldn't make any such assumption, particularly as the number on the
CoA (a guess based on your description) is not normally referred to as a
"serial number;" it's a Product Key. Ask Office Depot for a clearer
description of what *they* require from you before they honor *their*
rebate offer.

It really best to call OD and ask them. Go to the rebate center and talk to
CS and ask them what exactly they want

That's the best way to find out exactly what they require.
Is the "Product Key" not the one "key" that you want to keep private?

Yes, it is.

Why on earth would they want the "Product Key"?

Hopefully, they don't. Most companies, when asking for
proof-of-purchase for a rebate ask for the UPC (Universal Product Code -
a bar code) and number from the original packaging. That should be
something quite different from the CoA (which also has a bar code) label.

That's the whole reason I asked this question to begin with.
Both the rebate form receipt I received from Office Depot at time of
purchase and the online *.pdf form asked for both UPC and Serial Number. I
thought that to be odd.

Office depot has a long history of not honoring rebates.

Your CD has no serial number. If you do not supply a serial number, they
will not rebate your money. You have been taken. I would immediately
return it and demand every penny of my money back, and then buy it at a
store that will offer honest rebates.
