XP pro reboots about a minute into any game

Hi all
I hope someone can help me. I have an old version of XP pro (pre SP1)
and in the last few days I wiped my hard drives and re-installed. Now
when I come to play any game (battlefield Vietnam, Command & Conquer
Generals, Half life 2, Battlefield 2) within a minute the PC crashes
and re boots..

I have not installed any new hardware. here's the spec
Intel Pentium D 3.2 gHz
1 gb Ram
Abit AW 8
XFX NVIDIA GeForce 7600 xxx
maxtor 250Gb H/d

I've heard that other people have had similar issues to this but also
that people have craashed a fair bit after installing the latest
microsoft patches.

Any help would be appreciated.

Running an OS with admin privileges is never a good idea. Patch or no
patch. Additionally, running as admin entails additional requirements
on the system, thereby making it both vulnerable and slower. Why not
try logging in as a normal user, modify the game's shortcut to let the
application only run with elevated privileges? (or SHIFT + right-click
a shortcut for runas...).

How to enable and use the "Run As" command when running programs in
Windows

I think the problem is the RAM. I ran memtest and it came back woth
some errors.
