Hi,
I have Win XP Pro SP1 installed on an HP Pavilion desktop
computer. The processor is a bit slow, but almost
everything is working.

I wanted to install a Printer, Scanner, Copier (HP PSC
1300 Series) onto this PC. When I plug the USB wire into
the port, I immediately see the "Found New Hardware"
floowed by "Foound Mass Media Device" to FINALLY "Disk
Drive Found". At this point the computer goes into SNAIL
mode and cannot be revived without re-booting. If I boot
the computer without the printer hooked up, then all is
very well.

I have installed this same printer on another computer
and had NO troubles with in doing so. Is there a way to
update ISB drivers and from WHERE would you go to get
them ????

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry H

Larry,

You need to do this, in this order:

1. DON'T plug in the device.
2. Run the setup CD provided with the printer (or download the driver setup
program from the HP website).
3. When, and only when, the program tells you plug the thing in, plug it in
and turn it on.
4. Everything should install correctly.

I just had to reinstall a multi-function thinggy on same. Good thing I
re-read the poster that came with the unit as it said keep the device
OFF and put in the drivers first. Then is said on the reboot to cancel
"new hardware found" to complete the install.
