Question:

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 with Windows XP Pro. NTFS

Recently, for the hell of it, I ran Norton Disk Doctor,
and I got the following results:

a. System Area Status: "No errors in the system
area."
b. File Structure Status: "No errors in the file
structure."
c. Index Status: "No index errors."
d. Security Descriptors Status: "The 'Fix errors'
checkbox was not checked. Corrective actions
indicated below were not written to the disk. Usn
Journal verification completed.
e. File Data Status: " To perform this test, adjust
the following settings. In the Norton Disk Doctor main
window, check Fix errors and Because this test requires
exclusive drive access, you may need to restart your
computer to perform this test."

It has been my experience that no matter how I
run "chkdsk /f" or "chkdsk /r" (via Norton or from a
command prompt) I get the "BSOD" with the
following "Technical Information: *** stop: 0X0000007E
(0XC0000005, 0XF8267C27, 0XF89AD840, 0XF89AD540) ***
tbcspud.sys - address F8267c27 base at F824F000,
datestamp 3b8d7887"

What does this mean? What, if anything, should I do
about it? Is there anything bad about my C: drive. Is
the NTFS file structure corrupted? There are no
noticeable problems with my computer except when chkdsk
is run

I hope you can provide some insight.

R. Vines,
If nothing is happening to affect the computer; then I
would would let it go, Norton Disk Checker and Windows XP
Pro don't get along very well together, What I mean is
Windows XP keeps its hold on it's disk very tightly. If
you want to Fix this problem. I would do an OS rebulid.
and OS rebuild is reinstalling Windows XP. it puts back
files that are missing or Corrupted.

I would go talk with Symantec about this problem.

.

Hello!
The error is absolutely normal. while in Windows, the drive
is locked.

So, schedule chkdsk on next windows boot.

Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
Goto the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager

Locate the entry called "BootExecute" and dbl click it
add the following values:

"autocheck autochk /p \??\C:
autocheck autochk *
"
Now, chkdsk will run at next bootup.

Do you have a Turtle Beach sound card?

"From www.google.com, searching on tcbspud.sys for information, such as:

Bottom line: Get the latest Santa Cruz driver for the sound card, such as
from

I would not know what Norton may not do to Chkdsk. But the regular one
you run from an Accessories - Command Prompt,. and if it is a drive
that is in use (like C:) it will set it up to be run at next boot. But
Norton may have replaced the file by something of its own.
