XP Pro Networking problem

Kurt

I have 3 machines on my network all running xp pro sp2 and they belong to a
workgroup. One of the machines cannot be accessed from the other 2, it does
not even respond when I ping it. The funny thing is this machine can access
the other 2 machines without any problems.

Configuration
-All machines belong to the same workgroup
-Simple file sharing turned off on all machines
-XP Firewall allows file & printer sharing
-Everyone has full access to the shares on each machine

Thanks
Kurt

It sounds like the XP firewall is blocking the request due to the other two
not being recignized as "Safe machines". Recheck your firewall properties.

This happens even if I turn the firewall off.

The problem is almost certainly caused by a firewall -- either XP's
Windows Firewall, or a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, PC-cillin,
Sygate, ZoneAlarm, etc).

You should turn off Windows firewall (Control Panel->Windows Firewall) by
selecting Turn Off (Not Recommended) and also you should disable firewall to
control your network card (It's on Advanced tab). It may block ping requests
even if your Firewall is turned off.
Also check can you ping that computer being in Safe Mode with Networking...

Best Regards,
Ryan
