XP Pro lockout

I hope you can help me. I have xp pro on a laptop. I accidently eliminated
both accounts in control userpasswords2 and completely locked myself out. The
logon won't accept any passwords as correct. It gives me the message "The
system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct,
then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the
correct case". Is there a solution to this?

Is the computer a member of a domain? If so, log in as local
Administrator and create new user accounts. If this is a company laptop
and you don't know the local Administrator password, you should really
take the machine to your IT people and have them fix things for you.

In any case, you can change the local Administrator password to a blank
with NTpasswd, log in and create new user accounts.

I downloaded the file and burned it on Nero 5.5 as both an iso file and
separately as a boot disk. I could not get it to boot the computer using the
cd/dvd drive as the boot drive.

Sorry, I don't know what you're doing wrong then unless you burned it
incorrectly. The utility works just fine and has done so for many
years. I'm not sure what you mean by "both an iso file and separately
as a boot disk". You download the .iso and burn it as an .iso image -
not as a bootable cd. If you have more than one optical drive, try the
utility in the other drive.

Just for clarification I burned 2 different disks. The first was an iso image
and the other was burned as a boot disk. I tried both of the disks but
neither one would boot the computer (after selecting the cd drive from the
boot menu of course). It just does a regular boot to the logon screen. The
disks are maxell cd-r's. The drive will read other original microsoft disks
so I know the drive is working.

You don't burn it as a boot disk. You burn it as an .iso image. On some
computers you need to press a key to boot from a cd. You may not have
your computer set to boot from the cd drive. Check the boot order in
the BIOS. There's no way for me to know what you are doing wrong, but
rest assured many thousands of people have used NTpasswd so it *is*
something you are doing wrong.

If you can't figure it out, take the machine to a local professional and
have them do it for you. It will take less than 5 minutes. An
alternative program, but not free, is ERD Commander emergency download
from Winternals.

Just for clarification, if you have downloaded an 'ISO' image file you do not
burn as ISO.

In nero burning rom (not express) select burn image from the recorder menu,
in the file requester navigate to the iso file you downloaded, select it and
click open and it will create the disk for you when you click burn.
