XP Pro loading problems

Initially I downloaded an XP setup disk program (from Microsoft) to create
the six setup disks. However, after I boot up and the disks start to load
into memory, my
system shuts down (turns off) after inserting disk 6.
Disk 6 contains the following:
SYSTEM32 (folder) - SMSS.EXE and NTDLL.DLL
DISK106
KBDUS.DLL
SPCMDCON.SYS

I have disabled just about everything in the bios - to the bare minimum. The
only active components are the floppy, HD, and CDROM. I bought a copy of XP
pro to install on the new system (Abit KV7-V, amd ath xp2900+ 400SB Barton
Core, 120MB Maxtor drive, GeForce FX 5200 AGP w/tv). Same problem occurs
when the windows portion of the windows setup program loads into memory, my
system shuts off and a wavering beep starts. The only way to shut the beep
off is the power switch on the back of the PC.

Should I try to fdisk the disk with win98 or something before trying to load
XP or am just not catching something in the bios. I got frustrated and
chose the fail-safe option in my bios, now the damn thing is unresponsive.
Is resetting the CMOS the only way to clear this up?.

Any ideas?

smss.exe is also a process which is registered as the Win32.Ladex.a Trojan.
This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and
personal data. It is a registered security risk and should be removed
immediately

if your sure its clean disregard.

disk 6 is a reliable floppy?

i don't think its bios related. maybe memory timings.
The same thing is happening with a legit XP cd copy in a completely
different machine?
I would say memory module is kaput but on two different machines...big
koinky dink

I tried the floppy setup disks...all are reliable. That didn't work, so i
purchased XP Pro, which I wanted anyway. The system will boot up fine, cd
starts to load into memory, but when it gets to the same portion of the
setup program as disk 6 did (floppy) the system shuts down.

I'll pull the system apart (again) and recheck everything.

Start with RAM as its usually the source of most problems during setup.

Two tone/siren can be fan alarm or CPU over temp from BIOS. Check CPU
cooler is correct way round and fan spinning freely. Check speed and temp in
BIOS hardware monitor section. Alarm temp may be set too low, for that CPU
75 or 80C would be suitable.
