Initially I downloaded an XP setup disk program (from Microsoft) to create
the six setup disks. However, after I boot up and the disks start to load
into memory, my
system shuts down (turns off) after inserting disk 6.
Disk 6 contains the following:
SYSTEM32 (folder) - SMSS.EXE and NTDLL.DLL
DISK106
KBDUS.DLL
SPCMDCON.SYS
I have disabled just about everything in the bios - to the bare minimum. The
only active components are the floppy, HD, and CDROM. I bought a copy of XP
pro to install on the new system (Abit KV7-V, amd ath xp2900+ 400SB Barton
Core, 120MB Maxtor drive, GeForce FX 5200 AGP w/tv). Same problem occurs
when the windows portion of the windows setup program loads into memory, my
system shuts off and a wavering beep starts. The only way to shut the beep
off is the power switch on the back of the PC.
Should I try to fdisk the disk with win98 or something before trying to load
XP or am just not catching something in the bios. I got frustrated and
chose the fail-safe option in my bios, now the damn thing is unresponsive.
Is resetting the CMOS the only way to clear this up?.
Any ideas?
