XP Pro keeps shutting down

J

John Allan

Windows XP Pro on Athlon 700 382meg ram suddenly starts
shutting itself down. Message reads "shutdown initiated
by NT Authority/System --- Windows must shut down due to
Remote Proceedure Call RPC terminating unexpectedly."
Happens after 2-5 minutes after logon and net connection.
Had to install an older 16meg ATI Rage after a Creative
Annihilator fan quietly seized and damaged the card.

Sound like a hardware... driver.... ot virus issue????

Hi John,

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.

Then close Windows Explorer, run the edit on line 257 then run the patch
listed below it: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
