XP Pro Install Over XP Home

I recently purchased a retail upgrade copy of XP Pro at a
charity auction. Later, I discovered that the package
was unsealed. I am now worried that it was installed on
another machine and activated, boxed up and given to the
charity. Is there any way to check to see if it has been
previously installed? What happens if I install it and
it has been previously activated? Can I revert to my oem
version of XP Home without reformatting and reloading my
hard drive? Help, please!!!

Hi,

Did you get the Product Key with it? This is sort of the "key". Run setup,
and activate. If the product was previously activated in the past 120 days,
you will be prompted to phone in activation. Otherwise, it should activate
normally. If you need to call it in, just explain how you came into
possession of the product. There is nothing illegal here unless the previous
owner did not uninstall it from his/her system.
