XP Pro Install on a Computer With WIn 2000 Pro

Brian

I would like to move up to Windows XP Pro. The system is
currently using Win 2000 Pro.

Do I have to fdisk my system before I install XP Pro?

IS there an easier way of doing this upgrade?

(My XP pro CD is a full version not an upgrade one)

All help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Brian

The xp cd is all you need to re-partition, format and
install xp on your machine. Configure your machines bios
to boot from the cd drive only, insert the cd boot and xp
setup will start. Of course, re-partition and format
will wipe out all the stuff on your drive. But it's the
best clean way to install.

I'd recommend a bios update prior to the new os
installation if one is available from the company the
makes your motherboard or computer. That procedure is to
flash the bios using a bootable floppy disk. This will
help xp setup to "see" your hardware configuration.

When you partition, you'll have to decide to use NTFS or
FAT32. NTFS is the way to go. You may want to search
around for other opinions on that and the issues.

Since win 2000 pro and xp pro are virtually the same
operating systems with a few extras thrown into xp to make
it look pretty i would also recomend using ntfs file
system you get alot more security measures and is more
fault tolerent
