Xp Pro crashed on my girlfriend, All the text that you
would type would become ascii trash or windings. I got
help through kellies corner and it turned out to be a
corrupt registry. I followed the steps and got loaded
but she had system restore turned off so I couldnt go
back to a previous registry. So I backed up and now I
reformated the drive using xp pro cd and when it installs
it says cannont copy file to source, it might be a bad
cd. The cd I used had a few scratches but I use 3-4
different cd's over and over and have tried using NTFS
and FAT32 and it does the same thing.

Can anyone give me some pointers.

Sure Rob,

Fdisk /mbr

Remove the partition and rebuild the master boot record instead of just
reformatting. The MBR may have become corrupted or infected by a virus

Try putting the cd in a CDR\RW as they can cope with small errors slightly
better than a cdrom. Then copy all the installation files to the hard drive
(maybe make a small partition and copy the files to it) and run the
installation from the hard drive.
