XP PRO hangs up at start?

I have a 1800+ Atholon desktop computer, has worked fine until now,, whe I
turn it on, it gets to the please wait... Windows is starting up.... and
that is where it stays?? I have tried to start in safe mode.. nothing
changed. I tried to start in last good config, nothing changed.. any
suggestions??

Since you provided virtually no details that would help anyone diagnose
your problem, other than guessing, I suggest you show your computer to a
professional.

as a precaution I'd run the mfg's harddrive diagnostic
and a RAM test

if that's ok...

boot with your XP cd
and from the recovery console issue the command chkdsk \r


if that does not get you going...
perform a repair install

Ha...Same problem here. But I'm with Lenovo T61p.
The funny thing is that the "please wait" thing is random. Sometimes there
is not waiting, sometimes up to 5 minutes waiting. I restore my computer to
the earlier backup I have and after the update and everything, "please wait"
appeared again. I might try to get a new harddrive and install a new window.
It's kind of annoying when you are in a hurry and it tells you to wait,
while it doesn't do anything, beside printing out a long string of
"...........".
