XP Pro Hang up

Hello there,
I have recently installed Windows Professional on a brand new built
computer, there were no complicatiopns with the install everything
worked great. after install did all MSI updates off of website, did all
driver updates then continued to install Windows Updates. All updates
installed flawlessly. Then proceded to install Office 2003
Professional and did all lthe updates no problem. Once again the system
was running flawlessly... i believe the last widnows update i did was
the Windows Network Framework service pack update... or something like
that... now a few rebots after that, i cannot login, i cannot open task
manager, i get no icons no desktop, and no start bar... in both normal
startup and safe mode. There is nothing that i can do from either safe
mode or normal mode. When i try to open task manager, i get an error
saying its been disabled by your administrator...

I am completely stumped on what i can do here, i havent made any
significant changes, and now i cannot access windows at all... for a
while i could get task manager up and when i tried to run explorer
manually, all it did was open the windows explorer window it did not
load the desktop and icons.. now i cannot even get that far...

The computer is a P4 3.06 1.25Gb ram, 200 Maxtor, MSI motherboard, FX
5500,

Boot into Safe Mode with command prompt, accessed from the Advanced Options
menu at startup by pressing F8. Once logged in run this command at the
command line to access system restore.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

That should open the System restore GUI. From there do a restore to a date
right before the last update that caused the problem.
