XP Pro - DVD writer inquiry

HI,

I have XP Pro2.

I have a DVD-CDRW burner and I want to write data files to the DVD.

It shows in Dev Mgr as a Pioneer DVD player which is correct but in the
left side Explorer list it says CD. In fact it shows it twice. Once at
Drive I and again as M. One asks for a blank disk, the other doesn't.

When I put the blank DVD I do not get any panel asking me what to do either.

The unit is an IDE secondary slave.

This is obviously wrong. I have tried to write to it but it doesn't
allow me to.

How can I correct this please?

Thanks

First, it is not unkown for XP to report the drive as a CD drive and this
rarely causes a problem.

You do not say what DVD writing utility you are attempting to use and this
is important. Windows XP has no ability to write to DVD disks of its own.

Oh that's it then.

I thought XP was able to write Data to DVDs but not audio/video etc.

Thanks..

The only DVD format that XP can natively write to is DVD-RAM (and then only
in FAT32 format).

Now you know :)

Incidentally, you'll need to upgrade to SP3 or in the not-so-distant future
you won't be able receiving security updates/patches for your WinXP

You need to do so now. Personal experience has shown that no post SP3
security update is made available until SP3 has been installed. This would
appear to include the recent emergency security patch to IE.
